Matadors Move on to Second Round
The Mount Miguel Matadors are on to the CIF Division V quarterfinals after dominating Bayfront Charter High School Sharks 13-0.
Once again the Matadors' offense overwhelmed the opposing pitching. However, the star of the game was starting pitcher Stephanie Herrera, who pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit.
"I just came out here to do my best and make sure that we won this game for our school and name in softball," Herrera said of her performance.
Head coach Kevin Darby could not praise her starting pitcher's performance enough after the game.
"Phenomenal. She threw a one-hitter. She's always come up big, a clutch player whenever we've needed her," Coach Darby said. "Just a phenomenal player. That's why she's All-League First Team."
The Matadors gave Herrera run support early on and throughout the game, putting together a solid team win.
"I'm just so proud of the girls," Coach Darby said of the team's performance. "They seem to play their best when the chips are on the table. Just really excited."
Mount Miguel will face Castle Park at home on Saturday. Herrera is looking forward to the challenge.
"I feel like we have to get our defense up and just do what we keep doing, Batting and getting the runs on the board," Herrera said.
First pitch is at 10 a.m.
