Matadors One Win Away from Championship Game
An unexpected run. A pleasant surprise. Exciting times for our girls. These are some of the comments you hear around campus when talking about our softball team. 
 

The Mount Miguel Matadors will be playing for a spot in the Division V CIF championship game today as they take on the Knights of Foothills Christian at noon today from the Santee Sports Complex.

 
The Matadors had a solid season that saw them qualify as the fifth seed. The goal was to qualify for CIF for first year head coach Kevin Darby. This recent run that has them dominating the competition is exceeding everyone's expectations.
 
"You always want to win. Winning is always the final goal of any season," Darby explained. "The girls have just brought themselves together defensively. We're just on fire with the bats."

Matadors Move on to Second Round
 
The Mount Miguel Matadors are on to the CIF Division V quarterfinals after dominating Bayfront Charter High School Sharks 13-0.
 
Once again the Matadors' offense overwhelmed the opposing pitching. However, the star of the game was starting pitcher Stephanie Herrera, who pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit.
 
"I just came out here to do my best and make sure that we won this game for our school and name in softball," Herrera said of her performance.
 
Head coach Kevin Darby could not praise her starting pitcher's performance enough after the game.
 
"Phenomenal. She threw a one-hitter. She's always come up big, a clutch player whenever we've needed her," Coach Darby said. "Just a phenomenal player. That's why she's All-League First Team."

Matadors Start Fast, Win Big in CIF Opener
The Matadors defeated the Cougars 16-6 in front of a lively crowd to advance in the Division V CIF playoffs.
 
"It was an exciting game," Head Coach Kevin Darby said of his team's victory. "It was an awesome crowd. ASB made this the game of the week and we had great support from the staff and the students. All year we've had great support from the staff and students."

Softball Earns CIF Birth
The Mount Miguel Matadors softball team will host San Ysidro High in the first round of the Division V CIF Championship.
 
First year head coach Kevin Darby will lead the Matadors to their first CIF appearance in almost a decade.
 
"Making CIF was on our radar but not winning it," Coach Darby said. "This year was just to make the tournament and have a decent season as far as the wins so I think we accomplished our small goals."

Boys Tennis Qualify Two for CIF, Including League Champ
 
On Monday, the Matadors will be sending their top two players to this year's CIF championship.
 
They will be represented by league champion Lambren Marcus Newell-Khani and Andrew Alvarez.
 
It was a tough start to the season for Coach Diana Rosas and the Matadors after losing their number one player early on, But as the season unfolded, Alvarez and Newell-Khani stepped up to salvage .
