Matadors Bounce Back for Crucial League Victory
Mount Miguel boys basketball defeated the Santana Sultans 60-55 on Friday night to remain in the hunt for a league title.

It was not easy for the Matadors, as they struggled to close out the game after leading by 10 entering the final quarter.

"I don't know, to be honest," sophomore Marquise Edwards said when asked why his team struggled in the fourth quarter. "Not talking on defense, playing lazy."

This was a must-win game for the Matadors after losing earlier in the week to Granite Hills.

Sophomore Mikeece Dunbar, who finished with six points, credits a well-played third quarter and teammate Darrion Norwood for the win.

"Darian went out hard, competitive and didn't stop playing," Dunbar said.

The Matadors are now 13-9 overall, 5-1 in league play.

JV Boys Fast Start Leads to Big League Win

The young Matadors defeated the Vaqueros of El Capitan 54-29 Friday night thanks to a big first quarter.

Mount Miguel was lead by their freshman point guard Dominic Morales, who finished with 11 points, including 8 in the first where they outscored El Cap 25-5.

"We were executing our plays perfect in the first half," Morales explained. He credits his teammates for staying focused throughout the game.

Freshman shooting guard Jellen Jackson, who finished with 10 points, felt his team's determination and defensive effort were the difference.

"A lot of hustling, hard work and determination," Jackson's thoughts on his team's performance. "Our defense was a lot better than in other games but I feel we can improve."

The victory improved the Matadors' league record to 3-1. They are back in action Tuesday at Monte Vista
